Introductory classes/Tasters

Up to 3 hours (with a break in the middle)

Aims

At the end of the session, we hope that participants will have gained a greater understanding of what self defence is; an increase in their commitment to defending themselves; an awareness of and affiliation with their personal boundaries; an idea of what assertion is and how to use their voice in a strong way, and of basic physical self defence.

  • Introductions, guidelines and health and safety, and group building

  • What is self defence?

  • Grounding and stance work

  • Appearing confident/body language

  • Defending personal boundaries

  • Voicework and assertion

  • Physical self defence: aims and principles, movement, strikes, pad work, self protection

  • Self defence and the law

  • De-brief
