Self defence is not a bag of tricks. Instead,
it draws on a wide range of skills we already use in our everyday
lives, as well as strategies and techniques that give us options when
dealing with aggression, abuse, attack or intimidation.

getting help from friends – getting help in the workplace
– kicking – leaving the situation – telling someone
to back off – telling someone you don’t like what they’re
doing – keeping a safe distance – getting into a stance
– making up a story to get us out of a situation – faking
compliance and waiting for our moment – using weapons to hand
– escaping to a populated area – striking and shouting
– fighting from the ground – ranting – telling
someone to stop harassing your friend – protecting your personal
space – being determined to fight back and get out of a situation
– asserting yourself – standing strong – not letting
yourself be intimidated – not doing what is expected of you
– deciding to take control – avoiding blows and protecting
vulnerable areas – moving – not giving in – asking
someone for help – reacting to your gut feeling – using
the strong parts of your body against the weak parts of an attackers
body – running away – reaching safety – confronting
someone harassing or following you – getting out of a grab
– getting your adrenaline going
